2022. The year of beginning for this private practice and putting out into the world a life-long dream. This post serves as a time capsule for my future self to look back on. Hopefully this also serves as a source of information and inspiration for mothers with similar long-held dreams. Mothers who want to create time and space for their family while also impacting their community with good.
Let’s take a little walk down memory lane, shall we?
2022 Business Creation Timeline
- January – Maternity leave, nourishing my newborn. Read the pre-release of Jenna Kutcher’s book “How Are You, Really?” and answered that question with the realization that I needed to integrate work into our family life in a more seamless way. That the “someday” dream of opening my own private practice needed to move to the forefront.
- February – Beautiful Vail trip skiing < 12 weeks postpartum, returned to work as a full-time Sports Medicine Physical Therapist within the Outpatient Physical Therapy setting of a busy hospital-based clinic.
- March – Settled into a new routine with two children in childcare + continuing to work evening hours 2x/week, including Friday’s. Immediately felt burnt-out, burning the candle at both ends.
- April – Listened to Goal Digger podcast every chance I could get to zero-in on how to form a business from scratch.
- May – Met with Julie Wilkes, a long-time mentor of mine to discuss business dreams. Started a Google Doc with ideas of blog posts, content and dreams on what I wanted this private practice to look + feel like
- June – Purchased my website domain, filed for an LLC, began watching YouTube videos to DIY my website (with the help of my on-call tech support + business partner, my husband)
- July – Confirmed opening of Seven Studios new Grandview Heights, OH location. Branding photo shoot in-studio.
- August – Quit my job at the largest research-based medical system in Columbus, OH to launch this private practice! My last day there was August 18th, and we took the website live August 19th. Began seeing patients that next week. Woah!
- September – Many hours spent networking with like-minded providers in the Columbus, OH area and beyond. Put systems in place for patient scheduling. Added Prenatal Yoga, Mindful Movement, Mommy & Me and Yoga / Pilates Fusion classes to Seven Studios schedule.
- October – Started seeing more patients and began seeing the fruits of my labor from the many months prior. Here, I began to really trust the process and lean in to God’s plan for this business (which all along was my intent, but wow it’s scary when you officially put yourself out there and are a one-woman biz!)
- November – First Instagram Live interview and first two Podcast interviews! I LOVE talking about all things women’s health, lifestyle wellness, prenatal/postpartum care, orthopedics, sustainable living, movement and healing through a holistic approach. Having the opportunity to share on a platform that was not my own felt very invigorating!
- December – Embraced slowing down with my family. I’m naturally inclined to go-go-go (anyone else type A?!). It felt good to lean in to rest and cherish the reason for the season of Christmas with loved ones.
2023 Dreaming
Looking ahead to this new year, I am so excited for a full calendar year all-in on my business. More in-person clients in my boutique physical therapy studio space. More community connection through educational workshops and yoga classes. Growth in the online space with digital programming so that I can reach more women and their families – women interested in thriving through preconception and beyond, just like you!!!
As a working mother who is intent on keeping boundaries surrounding family time, I recognize that there are only so many hours in the day to help the number of individuals that I want to help. This is a huge driving force behind wanting to develop online programming to help you whenever and wherever is most convenient for YOU. Wouldn’t that be awesome?!
With that being said, please contact me if you have questions that you would like to see answered in the New Year. Or topics that you would like to learn more about. I am here to help YOU and others just like you. As a wife and mother myself, I am seeking to serve in the areas I wish I had someone to go to when I was moving through preconception and beyond. I am so grateful for the educational background I have that allowed me to dig deep into the research surrounding how to truly thrive through nourishment and movement in motherhood. I am here to help you do the same!
Cheers to 2023 and the growth that comes along with it!
